Central Product Information Platform

Clarity Before Change

A retail purchasing organisation manages a central product information platform that brings together product data, logistics information and product imagery from hundreds of suppliers and makes that information available to its member organisations.

Scale
~2,000 users · ~800 suppliers · ~300,000 active products · Business-critical platform

At the time our collaboration began, the platform supported approximately 500,000 products, around 800 manufacturers, nearly 2,000 users and handled thousands of API requests every day.

Before making any technology decisions, the organisation commissioned an independent assessment of the platform and the opportunities for its future evolution.

That assessment became the foundation of a long-term partnership.

The platform had successfully supported the organisation for many years.

As the number of products, integrations, suppliers and downstream consumers continued to grow, some operational processes no longer scaled as efficiently as the organisation required.

Full product synchronisations could require one to three weeks, while regular synchronisations could still take days before updated product information became available.

The objective was to preserve the considerable business value already embedded in the platform while preparing it for the next stage of growth.

Rather than replacing the platform, we redesigned it around the way the organisation actually used it.

Our work included:

  • A modern cloud-native architecture on AWS.
  • Independently scalable services and event-driven processing.
  • A redesigned API platform with comprehensive documentation.
  • A redesigned data architecture optimised for real-world access patterns.
  • Improved product image handling and data consistency.
  • Modern monitoring, operational maintenance and continuous platform updates.

Every engineering decision focused on preserving operational continuity while creating a platform capable of supporting future growth.

The modernised platform was introduced without disrupting day-to-day operations.

The results included:

  • Full product synchronisations reduced from one to three weeks to approximately four to five hours.
  • Regular synchronisations reduced from days to near real-time.
  • Faster availability of trusted product information.
  • Improved operational efficiency for suppliers and member organisations.
  • A more maintainable platform designed to support continued growth.

Successful platforms evolve together with the organisations they support.

Thoughtful engineering begins with understanding the organisation, protecting the value already created and recommending the changes that will create the greatest long-term benefit.

That is how clarity becomes confidence.
Industrial Operations Platform

Moving Forward Without Starting Over

A leading industrial services organisation operates across multiple countries, supporting industrial maintenance, construction and asset integrity projects where reliable digital tools are part of everyday operations.

Industrial Operations Platform

Over time, the organisation continued expanding its digital capabilities. Rather than replacing an established business-critical platform, the objective was to extend it with modern applications that better supported both office and field teams while preserving the value already embedded in existing business processes.

The existing backend platform successfully supported essential operational processes.

As user expectations, mobile technologies and day-to-day operations continued to evolve, there was an opportunity to modernise the application layer without disrupting the proven backend or the business processes that depended on it.

The challenge was to introduce modern web and mobile applications that integrated seamlessly with the existing platform and could continue evolving alongside the organisation.

Working alongside BVL Consulting, we focused on designing and building the modern application layer while integrating with the existing backend through well-defined APIs.

Our contribution included:

  • Three business-critical mobile applications delivered for both Android and iOS.
  • Four business modules redesigned as modern web applications.
  • A complete redesign of the Android applications using Kotlin, applying the experience gained from years of real-world use.
  • User experiences designed around the needs of both office users and field personnel.

Rather than replacing proven business capabilities, we focused on extending them where modern technology could create the greatest value.

The organisation gained a modern application layer while preserving the stability and continuity of its existing operational platform.

The results included:

  • Six native mobile applications across Android and iOS.
  • Four modern web modules integrated with the existing platform.
  • Reliable API-based integration with the backend.
  • Since the Kotlin-based Android applications were introduced, no production crashes have been reported through Firebase Crashlytics.
  • The applications continue supporting daily operations while evolving alongside new business requirements.

Progress does not always require starting over.

Sometimes the best engineering decision is to preserve proven business systems while thoughtfully extending them with modern technology.

That balance allows organisations to continue moving forward with confidence while protecting the value they have already created.
Donation Management & Fundraising Platform

Trust Before Transformation

A long-established non-profit education organisation relies on a mission-critical platform supporting fundraising, memberships, peer-to-peer campaigns, reporting, certificates, payment integrations and integrations with external systems.

As the organisation expanded its digital fundraising capabilities and supporter engagement continued to grow, maintaining reliability, performance and operational continuity became increasingly important.

For a platform where every donation matters, trust is essential.

The platform had successfully supported the organisation for many years.

As new capabilities, integrations and operational demands accumulated over time, maintaining the expected level of reliability and performance required a new phase of engineering investment.

The objective was to strengthen the existing platform while preparing it for future evolution without disrupting day-to-day operations.

We approached the project in two phases.

First, we strengthened the existing platform by addressing the highest operational priorities and restoring confidence in day-to-day operations.

With that foundation in place, we continued modernising the platform through carefully planned engineering improvements, including:

  • Infrastructure redesign
  • Security improvements
  • Smarter caching strategies
  • Background processing
  • Salesforce integration
  • Payment gateway integrations
  • Improved monitoring and operational maintenance

Every decision focused on improving reliability while allowing the organisation to continue operating without interruption.

The platform became more reliable, more resilient and easier to evolve.

The results included:

  • Stable operation during peak fundraising campaigns.
  • Donation processing that remains available when supporters are ready to contribute.
  • Certificate generation completed almost immediately, even during busy periods.
  • Improved operational reliability and performance.
  • A platform that continues evolving through ongoing maintenance and continuous improvement.

Successful platforms evolve together with the organisations they support.

Thoughtful modernisation begins by protecting what already works, strengthening what matters most and creating a foundation for the future.

That is how engineering builds long-term confidence.
